What to say during CNY?

- POSTED BY adrian ON Tue 5th Feb 2008 @ 4:25 pm

Chinese New Year is just days away but I really ‘no feel’.  I cannot wait to get the first and second day out of the way.  I haven’t even bought any clothes for myself this year.  I think I’ll have to do it anyway.  Anyone seen any red g-strings with the picture of a rat anywhere?  I dunno who said first day must wear new clothes and I also don’t remember what was the reason.  Is there a reason in the first place?  Anyone?

Anyway I need help from you guys before you go off for your holidays.  I suck at all these CNY greetings, wishes, etc.  Every year when I wish my family or my wife’s family, I just wish them ‘Gung hei fatt choi’.

What other wishes are there?  I know if someone is in business we could wish them, ‘Sang yee heng loong’ (Good business).  Then there’s ‘Sum seong see seng’ (I think this means hope your heart’s wish will come true?).  And also ‘San tai keen hong’ (which means good health).  What else is there?

Every year my wife’s family will say that I ‘lin lin teh kong yat yiong yeh keh’ (Every year also wish the same thing).  This year wanna surprise them a bit.

What do you normally wish the elders?  What do you say to the younger ones?  Those that are still studying?  Those that are working?  Those that are still single?

So help a blur guy out will ya?

ps: I still have to work until tomorrow and there are tons of stuff I haven’t done yet for CNY. :P  So if I don’t come over to your blog to wish you, sorry yeah.  I wish you now lor… *puts hands together and shouts* "GUNG HEI FATT CHOY!! SUM SEONG SEE SENG!!" (See that’s all I know)
